Erik Butler, DO

Dr. Butler, graduated from the Duke Family Medicine Residency in 2007. He will be working in a private Family Medicine practice located in Pittsboro and Sanford, NC where he will join three other Family Physicians and two nurse practitioners. "I've had a great three years as a resident at Duke Family Medicine. Right now is an exciting time for Duke Family Medicine. There is much energy, resources and attention being given to the program to ensure its success."

Dr. Butler feels the Duke administration and faculty believe in the importance of primary care and the curriculum has been revised to ensure Family Medicine residents become exceptional primary care specialists. Some of the changes enjoyed by Dr. Butler include are the expanded procedure training opportunities, increased involvement in the community outreach clinics, breathe of elective opportunities, and added opportunities in international medicine. Dr. Butler also believes that the reduction in traditional block rotations and replacing these experiences with longitudinal clinical experiences will provide more time to apply what is learned over the course of training. Finally, the faculty and staff are passionate about continuing to improve the program and make changes where changes are needed. Resident feedback is solicited and welcomed. In fact, many aspects of the new curriculum were put forth by the residents themselves. "I'm a strong advocate for the remodeled program and would be glad to answer any questions."

"I was attracted to Duke because of its reputation as a world class institution, where one can get the best training in medicine. At Duke I trained under some of the best specialists in the world. I had the chance to follow my own interests, including a month rotation in a Peruvian hospital for the indigent."
